The Perfect Seven Wells Steak

The Perfect Steak

We all appreciate and enjoy it when
we are served a great steak, but a perennial question is 'how to get the same juicy steak in your own home'.

Here are our top tips to cooking the
perfect steak yourself:

  1. Buy rib-eye steaks from Seven Wells in Oundle
  2. Allow your steaks to reach room temperature
  3. Season well with sea salt an fresh pepper
  4. Pre-heat your pan to hot but not smoking
  5. Heat to a sizzle a little oil and a small knob of butter
  6. For a medium steak: Cook on one side without touching for 3-4 minutes, then reduce to a medium heat and cook for another 2-3 minutes
  7. Gently turn the steak just once and cook for 6 minutes for a medium steak, or 2-3 minutes for medium/rare
  8. Rest your cooked steak in a warm place for up to 10 minutes
  9. Serve and enjoy!

There are 3 golden rules to remember: let your steak reach room temperature before cooking, turn only once, and rest your cooked steak.

Storage Guidelines

Proper storage will maintain the quality of your fresh meats. Uncooked meat can be refrigerated for short periods in our store packaging at 2°C to 4°C . The length of time meat will remain fresh depends upon the type of meat as well as the storage temperature so please use our handy chart for maximum storage guidelines. Don't store your meat in sealed plastic (unless it is a vacuum pack). We recommend you keep your meat in our Seven Wells packaging, or plate it up and loosely cover with foil, film, or greaseproof paper.

For longer storage, freeze your meat at 0°C or below. To prevent freezer burn (drying of the surface that causes meat to discolour) do wrap your meat well in in freezer wrap, freezer bags, or plastic wrap - eliminating all air, if possible. Remember to label your packages with the contents and date.
